Great piece. I love that poem: one of my favorite to read to my kids as well. Fully agree with you on the importance of "go"--if you have to choose between meter and sense, meter every time!
re frost, for a long, long time, readers were taken in by his homespun New England manner (which was quite artful actually), and therefore assumed he was a kindly cracker barrel philosopher type. well-meaning. avuncular, or grandfatherly, with his white hair. he was in fact ambitious, sharp-witted and very particular about presentation and canny about money; a manufactured image.
I came to his work late, perhaps avoiding it because of his status in the states (I'm a London-based Yank), and when I finally got around to reading him I quite liked him; but he is a performer, and there is something of the crank with an edge to him which can be off-putting for some.
